Foggy Waters

We believe effective communication is key to providing quality care. With that in mind, we wanted to share a few things we hope you'll find helpful. If you have more questions, email us at drniekema@btpsychservices.com

  • What is your pricing?
Intake sessions are $175/hr. Child & Youth Therapy Sessions 30-mins | $80 & 45-mins | $130 Adult Therapy Sessions | $175 Consultation & Advocacy sessions are $150/hr. Case Management Needs $25 - $100 (excess of 10 minutes a week in emails or phone calls) Testing fees vary depending on the type of evaluation administered. Most clients invest between $700 to $2,000. During our intake we will go through all of the options and make recommendations specifically for your child so there are no surprises! A $300 non-refundable deposit is due in order to secure a testing appointment. Full payment is due at the time the service is provided. We accept cash, all major credit/debit cards, & Zelle.
  • Do you accept insurance?
We have opted not to accept insurance due to respect for client privacy. Additionally, many insurance companies do not cover psycho-educational testing, & those who do will typically only reimburse a portion of the costs. If requested, we can give you a "super-bill" statement to submit to your insurance provider in an effort to get reimbursed for using an out-of-network provider. Please note that this submission will be your responsibility & that we do not make any reimbursement guarantees.
  • How do I know if my child needs testing?
Parents and students may find it disheartening when learning proves difficult. Low grades and sluggish academic advancement may dampen children's self-assurance and parents may feel powerless. A psycho-educational assessment can illuminate the root causes of learning obstacles, offering insights and solutions to aid struggling students effectively.
  • Evaluation Location?
We are willing to work with individual families to make assessment a reality when and where you need it. The most important part is that there is a suitable private space that can be used for confidential assessments. We can work with your child in your home, office, or at the BTPS office.
  • Will this evaluation guarantee placement and/or exceptional student education (ESE) services for my child's school?
Although we're committed to collaborating with your child's school and pediatrician to ensure our recommendations are followed, our reports don't assure Exceptional Student Education (ESE) placement or medical diagnoses. We provide guidance, but ultimate decisions rest with educational and medical professionals.
  • What is assessment data used for?
Comprehensive psychological assessments and evaluations typically include both informal information and standardized data. For child assessments, informal information comes from interviews with caregivers, the child, and sometimes teachers. For adults, interviews may be done with just you or family members. Standardized data comes from rating forms completed by caregivers, teachers, and/or the child and face-to-face administered tests given to the child.
  • What if I need to cancel my appointment?
We have a strict cancellation policy and we kindly ask that you all request to reschedule or cancel an appointment be made at least 24 hours in advance. If you cancel outside of this window or no-show for your appointment, you will be responsible for the cancellation fee which is $300 for a missed testing session and $50 for a missed counseling session. You may cancel or request changes by calling at 321.413.8039, or you may email Dr. Niekema directly at drniekema@btpsychservices.com
  • Do you offer a sliding scale?
What is a Sliding Scale? Therapists who offer sliding scales base the rate you pay on your income. This makes it possible to get therapy with them even if you don't have insurance (or they don't accept your insurance) and you can't afford their standard advertised rate. Fees range by service and client need. We reserve a limited number of sliding scale appointments to enable access to all clients, regardless of ability to pay.
  • What should I expect the day of testing?
Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a full meal on the day of testing. All medications should be taken as directed. We recommend dressing in layers, as the testing space may be chilly. Feel free to bring water and snacks for your child. Please plan to stay in the office for the duration of the testing session.
  • What if I am unhappy with the results?
If we have done our job right, you will feel like we accurately captured the concerns expressed related to your child and helped you better understand what is going on. However, you may find out things that are different than what you expected. Our job is to support you in better understanding yourself or your child, which includes better understanding diagnoses they may or may not have, the extent of their strengths, and the extent of their challenges.
