How DBT looks at BTPS
We use DBT in a way that is affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. We understand the emotional worlds of adolescents, the stressors of modern families, and the impact of intersectional identities. We don’t offer a one-size-fits-all solution—your DBT experience will be tailored to meet you where you are.
You’ll learn practical, life-changing skills in areas such as:
-
Mindfulness – staying grounded in the present
-
Distress Tolerance – surviving crises without making things worse
-
Emotion Regulation – understanding and managing overwhelming feelings
-
Interpersonal Effectiveness – setting boundaries and communicating needs
We offer DBT in individual sessions and, when appropriate, in family settings to support long-term growth.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Sometimes emotions can feel too big, too fast, or just plain hard to manage—and when that happens, it can feel like your relationships, your choices, and your mental health are all being affected at once. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful, skills-based approach that helps you find balance, feel more in control, and build a life that aligns with your values.

What is DBT?
Originally developed for individuals who experience intense emotions, DBT combines cognitive-behavioral strategies with practices rooted in mindfulness, acceptance, and emotional regulation. At its heart, DBT teaches that two things can be true at the same time—like “I’m doing the best I can” and “I can still work toward change.”
It’s especially helpful for people who:
-
Feel overwhelmed by emotions or mood swings
-
Struggle with impulsive or self-destructive behavior
-
Have difficulty in relationships
-
Experience anxiety, depression, or past trauma
-
Live with borderline personality traits or chronic stress
-
Are navigating big life transitions or identity development
What to expect
DBT is not just about coping—it’s about creating change that feels real and sustainable. You’ll be supported by a therapist who will both validate your experiences and gently challenge you toward growth. We’ll focus on skill-building, problem-solving, and learning how to respond—not just react.
Our DBT work is grounded in respect, collaboration, and compassion. No judgment. No shame. Just real tools, real talk, and real healing.
You deserve support that works.
If you or your child are feeling stuck, emotionally overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward, DBT could be a transformative next step.
